Road to Paris with Brittni Mason
SickFit is excited and honored to announce our partnership with Paralympian Brittni Mason, a track and field athlete who has broken and set World Records and is a three-time Paralympic medalist. With her unmatched energy and dedication, she mirrors the SickFit spirit of enthusiasm, resilience, and pushing toward greatness. This collaboration marks the first of our sports partnerships, and we are proud that our products’ quality —as well as our commitment to inspiring people around the world— is recognized by athletes at the highest level.
Four years ago, the world watched Brittni win one Gold and two Silver Medals at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games, but it was the culmination of a lifetime of hard work. Born with Erb's Palsy, a nerve injury that affects her left shoulder, Brittni was active in dance, gymnastics, and swimming since the age of three, and she became serious about track at 10 years old. With two athletic parents, sports were a way to incorporate physical therapy seamlessly.
“The doctors when I was younger told my parents that my range of motion in my arm would be extremely limited if I didn’t do physical activity,” she explains. However, she never considered herself disabled, accepting her arm for what it was but still continuing to compete in able-bodied races. “I still ran with able-bodies, [I] did all types of sports. It hindered me, but we didn’t use that as an excuse,” Brittni says. “Growing up, yes I knew that my arm had nerve damage, but I really didn’t think anything of it... most people don’t recognize it until I start running.”
In preparing for the Paris Paralympics, Brittni is even more confident in her ability to run multiple rounds than she did in Tokyo. “I am able to go back and sprint back-to-back, and produce the same time if not faster,” she explains. Constantly challenging herself, every sprint is met with this upbeat but competitive mindset: “we can run that again; I bet I can go faster.”
When asked what her goals are for this year, she replies simply: “Break the world record.”
“In 2019, my first World Championships, I ended up breaking the world record in our classification for the 100,” she explains. Her training is now motivated by pursuing that legacy once more. “I want to demolish it to the point where it will take generations to be able to break that world record. That’s what keeps me motivated.”
An athlete known for her hard work ethic, Brittni is also well known for not wearing shoes.
“I warm up in socks, I cool down in socks,” she laughs. “Sometimes when we have workouts and if we are running in the grass, I wear socks.” We are proud to outfit Brittni in SickFit socks as she races toward her dreams in the Paris Paralympics.
